Twitter shares tumble on concerns about hacking activity

Twitter said in the blog which it discovered suspicious website visitors to a customer-support forum while investigating a burglar bug that exposed data, including users’ phone country codes and particularly locked accounts. It said the bug was fixed on 16 November.

Twitter observed a large number of visitors to the customer support site coming from individual internet IP addresses in China and Saudi Arabia.

“While we can’t confirm intent or attribution for many, it is also possible that most of these IP addresses might have ties to state-sponsored actors,” your blog post said. “We always err tubing full transparency of this type and get updated police force on our findings,” it said.

A company spokesman declined to elaborate as Twitter shares posted their biggest drop in greater than two months.

A Wedbush analyst, Michael Pachter, blamed the decline on concerns that news on the breach could hurt growth and user engagement.
